Bergamot, which belongs to the Rutaceae family and is scientifically referred to as Citrus bergamia, produces an oil extracted from its peel, emitting a tantalizingly rich, sweet, and creamy green aroma. Although the fruits from the bergamot tree are not typically harvested commercially, its oil is highly valued.
Originating from the southern region of Calabria in Italy, bergamot trees are propagated through grafting onto bitter orange trees. The oil is cold-pressed from the peel of almost ripe, organically certified fruits grown in Calabria.
Bergamot oil is renowned for its uplifting, sweet, citrusy, fruity, fresh, warm, clean, and rich scent, often compared to the aroma found in Earl Grey tea.
The benefits of bergamot essential oil include its potential to uplift mood, alleviate stress and anxiety, promote relaxation, support skin health, and even act as a natural deodorant or insect repellent.
Its major constituents include limonene, linalyl acetate, linalool, gamma-terpinene, and beta-pinene, which contribute to its distinct fragrance and therapeutic properties.
